Rockstar Games Addresses GTA V Next-Gen Version Save Migration Issues
GTA 5 for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 was released last night, and one of the main reasons why players purchased the next-generation version of the game was for Grand Theft Auto Online. It appears that players had major problems converting their Online profiles from last-gen consoles to current-gen platforms.
Players who had previously transferred their Online progress to the PC were unable to move it to the PS5/Xbox Series X/S. While the problem has been resolved, another peculiar aspect of the migration process has raised eyebrows in the community.
GTA V and GTA Online on Next-Gen Consoles Get an Update...
Specifically, the section stating that after switching to new consoles, gamers will no longer be able to use the same profile on their PS4/Xbox One. That is, after a player's profile has been transferred to a PS5/Xbox Series X/S, they will no longer be able to use the same profile on a PS4/Xbox One.
GTA Online Profile Migration Issues and Last-Gen Console Progress
We're currently working to resolve the issue with GTA Online profile migration for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S where those migrating from PS4 or Xbox One are currently blocked due to previously migrating those accounts to PC, and will update everyone once this is working as intended.

The Rockstar Support page for online profile migration states unequivocally:
"Your migrated profile will no longer be available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One once your progress has been transferred from PlayStation 4 or Xbox One to PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S."
GTA 6 trailer, screenshots, unveiling, and release dates...
While this isn't ideal, a decision like this from Rockstar doesn't appear to be completely out of pocket. Future expansions of the game could be exclusive only to next-generation systems, similar to how GTA Online transitioned from PS3/Xbox 360 to PS4/Xbox One.
The game's next-gen re-release appears to be performing well so far, with many fans enjoying the Performance RT visual mode, although it isn't breaking new ground. The speedier loading times and seamless transition between players are welcome touches, but they aren't exactly the generational leap that some fans may have hoped for.
