Sirf Ek Banda Kafi Hai Movie Review: Script Analysis

Cinema that mixes truth with fiction has gained popularity in recent years. Dahaad, another project is following the trait this month. 9 times out of 10, they end up being a half-hearted imitation of real-life incidents, such as a Crime Patrol episode. But there are those rare occasions when performers in the writing find their moments and make the content on paper breathe despite its flaws, and this one falls into that category.

Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, written by Deepak Kangrani, is inspired by the infamous Asaram Bapu case. A 16-year-old girl accused the self-styled Godman of r*ping her at his Jodhpur Ashram. He was quickly apprehended, and after a five-year battle with several witnesses who were attacked or went missing, Asaram was sentenced to life in prison. Bandaa tells the same story but uses different names, and we all understand why. It's not an easy time to make films about specific topics. Sirf Ek Banda Kafi Hai Wikipedia

The brilliance of the writing and the filmmakers are in how they pitch their main characters. It is a difficult path to take when creating a film that includes a religious aspect and discusses God. So they transform Solanki into a tremendously holy man so that he enters the film while praying. So it's not a battle between believers and atheists, but a battle between believers. Of course, God does not support injustice, and many people regard one 'Man' as God. At this point, the clash becomes more interesting.

The movie gets interesting because the guy we're supposed to bet everything on is first insecure about himself. He's simply an everyday guy who becomes a little fanboy when he sees some great advocates going around. The movie is defined by the scene in which he is forced to confront his idols in the next minute. The emphasis is always on the Bandaa, who rises beyond the ordinary and defeats everyone who supports the bad. While Manoj Bajpayee is capable of playing this role, the film goes beyond him.

Yes, as the title suggests, the film is centered on a single character, who is not the victim but her savior. The film does not give anything else the weight it deserves. While this does not ruin the viewing experience, it is rather bothersome because neither the victim's family's problems after going up against probably the biggest God-man, nor the God-man himself, nor the dissection of his world are highlighted. Even Solanki's family is not thoroughly explored.

Of course, it's a safe game because these characters resemble real people in some way. Nonetheless, it's an almost daring film. But I can't help but notice that Ram Jethmalani's name is given in the cast credits but spelled Ram Chandwani throughout the film. Perhaps some censor board advice? For those who are unaware, Jethmalani is one of the many great lawyers recruited to fight for Asaram's release from prison.

Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai Movie Review: Star Performance

Manoj Bajpayee is an icon who rose from the common man. He isn't a superstar, and that is his greatest asset because he is relatable. PC Solanki is both vulnerable and strong. He makes judgments that will make him renowned and serve his moral compass, but he also has second thoughts about them when the risk is in front of him. His performances as a lawyer who transitions from fanboy to opponent in the blink of an eye are filled with nuance. The legend only sets new standards for himself and then breaks them with his next endeavor. Sirf Ek Banda Kafi Hai Wikipedia

He is backed up by a talented cast that includes Vipin Sharma, Surya Mohan Kulshreshtha, and others. Adrija Sinha is sandwiched between these world-class performers, and she does not disappoint. She makes the most of whatever screen time she is given, even if it is with a masked face and only her eyes visible to the audience.

Sirf Ek Banda Kafi Hai Movie Review: Direction, Music

Apoorv Singh Karki, who makes his feature film debut, is upbeat. Because he has productions like Aspirants and Saas Bahu Achaar Pvt. Ltd. under his belt, the filmmaker understands how to discreetly communicate emotions on screen. That translates in Bandaa as well, as Bajpayee delivers monologues that seem like a war-ending note but are nevertheless nuanced in nature. The outbursts are never overdramatic since they are perfectly balanced with the bland tone. Yes, the execution is flatter than necessary in places, because when you're supposed to be terrified, you don't get the goosebumps.

Music is adequate and serves its purpose. The camera work follows the expected course and makes the film watchable. Sirf Ek Banda Kafi Hai Wikipedia
